Curtiss-Wright C-46 Commando Derived from a civilian airliner design, the C-46 Commando cargo plane served with distinction during World War 2 but was not produced as much as the infamous C-47 Dakota. After the war, a number of suprlus C-46 Commando were sold on the civilian market, and a handful still fly commercial operations nowadays.

2. Flown by VMR-252 based at NAS Cherry Point, this R5C-1 (US Navy designation for the Commando) was seen at the National Air Races in Cleveland, Ohio, in 1947. * * * |
