An evolution of the Mystère II, the Mystère IV was the first transonic fighter to enter service in France. It was also exported to Israel and India, who both used it in combat.
Mystère IVA No 112 was part of the 12th Escadre de Chasse based in Cambrai, which provided the crews and aircraft of the Patrouille de France in 1956.
In 1963, the Patrouille de France was hosted by the 7th Escadre de Chasse, based in Nancy. Mystère IVA No 297 was one of the team’s aircraft, which now sported a specific paint scheme.
The Mystère IV served in the French air forces until the early 1980s. This aircraft, No 293, was part of Escadron de Chasse 2/8 “Nice”, and was based in Cazaux in 1978.
The four birds on a/c 12-XZ from Cambrai depicted on your nice profile were actually a crimson colour, as General Tourniaire (then the leader of this aerobatic team) once told me later in his life when he was the Mirage III air base commander in Colmar.
Something like a deep purple mixture produced at air base level using automobile paint… 🤗
