“Baghdad Fury” No 132

royal-iraqi-air-force-fury-i-no-132-1952In December 1946, the Royal Iraqi Air Force ordered Sea Furies from Hawker. Iraqi Sea Furies were essentially de-navalized FB.11 with no arrester hook and an extended rudder. This example, number 132, was delivered in the classic RAF desert scheme: Azure Blue, Mid Stone and Dark Earth.

Several different designations can be found in literature for the Iraqi Sea Furies: Sea Fury FB.11, Sea Fury FB.60, Fury I or “Baghdad Fury” (the latter being only used internally by Hawker).

The spinner for this aircraft is often represented as painted Azure Blue. Although black & white photo interpretation is always difficult at best, I believe the spinner was either Dark Earth or more likely Mid Stone.
